LET'S DISCOVER TOGETHER MONTE BRE
From the Suvigliana FMB station you wilI take the funicular (cable railway) up to the top of Monte Brè (916 m) from where you can admire a spectacular panoramic view of the Gulf of Lugano and the Alps.
After that you wiIl return to the funicular for a short downward ride and a pleasant walk through the woods (about 15 minutes), to visit the church of San Fedele, where you will learn the fascinating story of Josef BIRO (1887- 1975), a refugee Hungarian painter, who painted the frescoes and Iived at Brè from 1946 to 1961.
Following the "ARTTRAIL" through the very heart of this old

village, the guide wilI present 20 different works of art by widely acknowledged artists from Ticino and abroad: Aligi Sassu, Armando Losa, Emilio Rissone, Giuliano Togni, Giancarlo Tamagni, Piergiorgio Piffaretti, Al Fadhil, Franco Franchi, Mariapia Borgnini, Gianni Realini. Gianfredo Camesi, Antonio Lüönd, Orio Galli, Marco Prati, Fra Roberto Pasotti, Petra Weiss, Nena Airoldi, Lorenzo Cambin, Fernando Bordoni and Gianmarco Torriani.
You will feel the atmosphere of the places where three well-known artists Iived.They were Pasquale GILARDI "LELEN" (1885- 1934, poet and sculptor), Luigi TADDEI ("the peasant painter", 1898- 1992), and Wilhelm Schmid (1892- 1971,the only painter of the "Nordic Magic Realism" school in Switzerland; his home is now a museum).
You will also admire the work of craftsmen and the picturesque parts ofthis typical yet distinctive rural village, and you will Iearn about the historical curiosities of Brè.
But that's not all! Before returning to the funicular for the return trip to Suvigliana, you will be surprised by something really curious, and we will show you some truly remarkable sculptures in a pIace where you wouldn't expect to find them.
